الْوَهَّابُAl Wahhaab
The Giver of All
Scroll on for a reflection, and where you’ll meet it
Reflection
A hiba in Arabic is a gift with no price on it and no expectation of return, and that is this root. The intensive form describes a giver whose giving does not run down with use.
Of the three ayat carrying the written form, two are inside a prayer — “You are the Giver”, said by people who are in the middle of asking: once for hearts not to be turned aside after being guided, once by Sulaymān asking for a kingdom. The third pairs it with al-ʿAzīz. Some things arrive that you did not earn, and this name is a way of noticing them rather than a way of applying for them.
