Reflection

Kibar in Arabic is also age — what has become large by lasting — and the root gives takbīr, the declaring of greatness, and kabīra, a thing too big to be waved away.

Four of the eight ayat carrying this written form close on al-ʿAliyy al-Kabīr, the high and the great, in four different surahs. A fifth pairs it with al-Mutaʿāl — the seventy-eighth of these names, written there without the final letter the list gives it. Beside all that, most of what feels enormous today is a small thing being held very close to the eye.
