Al Ahad

A root of its own, the lexicons say, read beside wāḥid: one, but one of a kind rather than first in a series. In ordinary Arabic it is also the word for “anyone” and “no one” — a word that spends most of its life being indefinite.

Its most familiar appearance is the opening ayah of Sūrat al-Ikhlāṣ, and there it carries no article at all — qul huwa Allāhu aḥad — which is why this page reports no exact match for the definite form. Some things cannot be counted, having nothing to be counted against.
