Al Mumeet

Mawt is death, and this participle is the one who brings it. The root also gives the word for ground gone lifeless, which the Qur’an likes to use as a picture of something that will be revived — the letters are not left alone with their obvious meaning.

The written form is not in the Qur’an; the name comes down in the list, and the list never sets it on its own: al-Muḥyī is always beside it, exactly as the two verbs are always beside each other in the text. That the two are named together is most of what there is to say.
