Reflection
Badaʾa is simply to begin: the first time a thing is done. The Qur’an’s usual sentence for it puts the beginning and its repeat in one breath — He originates creation, then repeats it — and this name and the next one are the two halves of that sentence.
Neither written form is in the Qur’anic text; the pairing is the tradition’s, and its sense is plain enough. A beginning is only remarkable once. Being able to do it a second time is the part worth naming.
