Reflection

Matīn describes what is firm all the way through — the root names a strong back, and a rope pulled taut, and anything that will not give when it is leaned on.

The single ayah carrying it is shared with ar-Razzāq, the seventeenth of these names: the Provider, the possessor of strength, the firm. Provision described as firmness rather than as plenty says something the word “plenty” cannot. What holds is not always what is abundant, and on most days it is the holding you needed.
