Reflection
To answer is the plain sense, and underneath it lies the idea of crossing a distance to reach whoever called. The same three letters describe Thamūd, who jābū — cut clean through — the rock of their valley to make homes of it.
This definite form is not in the Qur’an; the name is held by the list. The word without its article is there once, and it is spoken to those same people, by Ṣāliḥ: my Lord is near, and answering. An answer can be slower than the asking and still be an answer.
