Ash Shakoor

Shukr is gratitude, and the lexicons note the root used of an animal that grows sleek on very little pasture — a small thing returning far more than it took.

The one ayah carrying this written form does not name Allah with it. It closes a passage about the house of Dāwūd being told to work in thanks, with the line that few of His servants are grateful: the word here is about us, and it is not flattering. Said of Allah, the same word is read the other way round — rewarding a little out of all proportion. Small efforts are not lost, even the ones that felt like nothing at the time.
