Al Haleem

Ḥilm is the patience of someone who has the power to react and no hurry to use it. From the same root come ḥulm, a dream, and the word for the age at which a young person is held to have come into judgement — a family of meanings about things that take their own time.

The one ayah carrying this written form is not describing Allah at all. It is Shuʿayb’s people answering him, after refusing everything he had asked of them: you are the forbearing, the right-minded. Ar-Rashīd, the ninety-eighth of these names, is the other half of that same sentence. Delay is not the same thing as indifference.
