Ar Raafi'

Rafʿ is lifting — of a roof, of a rank, of a voice. From the same root the Qur’an makes rafīʿ ad-darajāt, the one who raises ranks, and the verb for Ibrāhīm and Ismāʿīl raising the foundations of the House.

This exact form is not written in the Qur’an, though the act runs all through it; the name is held by the list rather than by the text, and its participle appears once beside its twin in that two-word ayah about the Day. Rising is something done to a person about as often as it is done by them, which takes some of the weight off.
