Unit 9 · Harakat — the vowel marks

Step 1 of 4 · Meet the mark

ـْ

Sukun

سُكُون

The sukun is the mark for silence after a letter. The letter is still said — it just gets no vowel, so it closes the syllable and you move straight on to the next letter.

ـْ

Sukun

No vowel at all — say the letter and stop there.

A small circle written above the letter.
